HRH Prince Charles:
Houghton Revisited “Once in a Lifetime Experience”

Houghton Hall masterpiecesNot only was the art world full of praise for the “Houghton Revisited” exhibition which Oracle Capital Group has co-sponsored this year, His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, was also impressed.

Prince Charles officially opened the exhibition at Houghton Hall, home of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondley, in May. He told those gathered for the occasion that the exhibition was “a once in a lifetime experience.”

His Royal Highness described his tour of the collection as a “pleasure” and added that, “I do hope that as many people as possible will have the option to visit”.

The paintings were originally collected by Britain’s first prime minister, (and Lord Cholmondley’s ancestor), Sir Robert Walpole. They were then sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in the 18th Century to pay family debts. Continue reading

The magnificent art collection created by Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole which was later sold to Catherine the Great of Russia to adorn the Hermitage in St Petersburg was reassembled in its spectacular original setting at Houghton Hall in Norfolk for the first time in over 200 years this summer. Houghton Revisited runs from 17 May – 29 September 2013, and is a unique opportunity to see one of the most famous art collections of 18th century Europe including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Velazquez, Poussin and Rubens.

Gift of LifeThe Gift of Life foundation is the London-based sister organisation of the Podari Zhizn foundation – one of Russia’s largest charity foundations, dedicated to helping as many as 2,000 children suffering from cancer each year. Podari Zhizn foundation offers hope and practical care to children and young adults whose families cannot afford treatment for cancer. Thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, Podari Zhizn saves the lives of dozens of children through the provision of vital medicine and treatment, while providing support for children and young adults – Russian citizens resident in Russia or the CIS – up to the age of 25.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS

RAThe Royal Academy of Arts was founded by George III in 1768. The 34 founding Members were a group of prominent artists and architects, including Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir William Chambers, who were determined to achieve professional standing for British art and architecture. They also wanted to provide a venue for exhibitions that would be open to the public and to establish a school of art through which their skills and knowledge could be passed to future generations of practitioners.
